Labeling our Home

Our house is now officially labeled! As suggested by Jaden's ASL teacher and reading specialist at school, we invested in a label machine and went to town labeling the house. I must say that it was quite a task as I thought my spelling was pretty good.....until I realized that the label maker does not come equipped with spellchecker!

I know that these labels are not very "chic" or stylish for home decor but the benefit for my children outweighs my desire for our home to look like something out of a Better Homes magazine...not like it ever did in the first place!

  1. Hi Danielle! I love your blog! This is great! Love the label idea too. Have you linked this to deafread? If you do, you may get more feedback and ideas, as well as support from other Deaf Adults, and Parents. Thanks for being such a wonderful role model for your children! You rock!

  2. It's a wonderful idea for surrounding kids with language! Later on, post-its with full sentences, changing every so often, and bits of news tucked into shoes and lunchboxes. Comic books are rich in dialogue, so throw one in for special treats just as often!

  3. I did this when my son was young. It is so funny to look back and remember my husband asking me to take them down once when we planned a party. I actually resisted even though it was just for one night! You sound like a great family.

My son is now in 6th grade, Deaf and reads at the 12th grade level. We made the same choice as you and have no regrets!
